Uses
The Gas Washing Bottle is widely used for:
- Gas purification before analytical experiments.
- Humidifying gases before entering sensitive instruments.
- Removing impurities from laboratory gases.
- Absorbing harmful gases into suitable chemical solutions.
- Gas scrubbing during chemical reactions.
- Environmental monitoring laboratories.
- Pharmaceutical quality control laboratories.
- Research and development laboratories.
- Educational laboratory demonstrations.
- Industrial chemical processing applications.
Working Principle
The Gas Washing Bottle works by directing incoming gas through a fritted glass cylinder (Porosity No. 1) located at the bottom of the bottle. The porous frit breaks the gas into numerous fine bubbles, significantly increasing the contact area between the gas and the liquid inside the bottle.
As the gas travels through the liquid, impurities are absorbed, moisture is added (if required), or chemical reactions occur depending on the solution used. The treated gas then exits through the outlet tube, ensuring cleaner and more conditioned gas for downstream laboratory processes.
How to Use
- Clean the bottle thoroughly before use.
- Fill the bottle with the required absorbing or washing solution without exceeding the recommended level.
- Secure the screw cap and ensure all joints are tightly sealed.
- Connect the gas inlet and outlet tubing correctly.
- Start gas flow gradually.
- Observe that fine bubbles are generated through the fritted cylinder.
- Allow the gas to pass through until the desired purification or absorption is achieved.
- After use, disconnect the apparatus, dispose of the solution safely, and wash the bottle with distilled water before storage.
Wrapping Notes
- Handle the glass bottle carefully to avoid breakage.
- Use only compatible chemical solutions suitable for borosilicate glass.
- Inspect the fritted cylinder regularly for blockage and clean when necessary.
- Do not expose the bottle to sudden temperature changes.
- Store in a clean, dry location after washing.
- Replace damaged sealing rings or caps to maintain leak-free performance.
- Always wear appropriate laboratory safety equipment while handling gases and chemicals.
