FLY WHEEL
- A flywheel is a rotating mechanical device that is used to store rotational energy. The amount of energy stored in a flywheel is proportional to the square of its rotational speed.
- This apparatus helps students to get a basic understanding of the mechanism of a flywheel and for calculations of the moment of inertia of the flywheel.
- It is about 20 cm in diameter and 45 mm wide, turned and carefully balanced, mounted on a horizontal shaft, held in ball bearings.
- There is a small peg on the axle. One end of a cord is loosely looped around the peg and its other end carries the weight-hanger.
