The ball mill is a horizontal cylindrical device used in grinding (or mixing) materials like ores, chemicals and pigments. Ball mills rotate around a horizontal axis, partially filled with the material to be ground plus the grinding medium (usually balls), so that they form an enclosed environment. The rotation causes friction and attrition between the solid particles and the media which grinds them down to the desired size. Ball mills are frequently used instead of other types of mills because they operate at lower speeds, while still producing fine particle size. They work on the principle that the materials are broken down by the impact of balls or rods moving at high velocity against them. The ball mill works by rotating a cylinder partially filled with balls that are held together by gravity and centrifugal force. The cylinder is rotated while it is partially full so that material can be ground continuously without forming clumps or becoming stuck to sides or bottom of cylinder during operation
Laboratory Type Ball Mills are available in two sizes – 2 kgs & 5 kgs capacity with speeds ranging from 80 to 120 rpm. The internal surfaces of these mills are electro polished to ensure smooth operation and long life
